1. Leave your day at the door
See the studio as a safe haven for some quality "me time." No need to stress over the day's half-finished to-do list or worry about what to make for dinner. Each class is a chance to cleanse the mind and body while getting a GREAT workout!
When your brain is busy thinking about tomorrow's appointments, it's only partially devoted to your workout, and the power of the mind-body connection is one of the most beautiful aspects of Pilates.
Get the most out of every class and leave your day at the door so you can focus on your body's needs!
2. Learn something new
No matter if it's class number one or 32, look at each one with eyes anew! Don't allow your Pilates frame of mind to get caught up in the drudgery of routine.
Even though your instructors do their best to keep things fresh and new, it's easy to idly skate through the basics, like footwork, hundreds or leg circles.
No matter how many times you circle your arms in the straps, approach each exercise with a new outlook on how to activate your muscles! The more familiar you are, the farther you can expand your technique.
3. Don't suffer in silence
Pilates can help the body with a myriad of issues, and no matter your physical ailments or current body condition, there are a ton of different ways to execute every exercise to best suit you and your needs.
That being said, if while performing a certain exercise, something doesn't feel quite right, STOP and let your instructor know! Don't suffer in silence because you're worried about stopping the flow of class, or are just willing to bite your lip and worry about it later.
One of the best things about Pilates is that you can gain strength without sacrificing the safety of your body!
